I was born and grew up in Merrick, New York. In high school I excelled in math and science and went on to attend the University of Pennsylvania where I majored in economics and psychology with a 3.4 GPA. While in college I worked fundraising for Hillel and my earnings from that job allowed me to deposit and to begin to play online poker.
I began playing with friends while at the University of Pennsylvania and quickly learned that it was a game of skill and with hard work I could improve. Though the stakes were small, I enjoyed improving and began reading books and learning the odds in order to gain an advantage. In my senior year, when my studies prevented me from going to Atlantic City, I decided to deposit a few dollars in an online poker site. After graduating, I elected to attempt to play poker professionally and have been doing it for the last 13 years.
For the past 10 years I have focused on No Limit Texas Hold’em cash games and excel at analyzing my opponents weaknesses and taking advantage of those flaws. I have played over 8 million hands online and have been part of an exclusive group of players who have earned Supernova Elite Status on Poker Stars by earning 1 million points in a calendar year. In addition to playing, I have spent many thousands of hours away from the table poring over my opponents games, thinking of counter strategies, discussing hands with others, and coaching beginners and advanced players.
Before I transitioned to No Limit Hold’em cash games, I excelled at tournaments, playing in the World Series of Poker several times as well as the European Poker Tour Championship. In addition, I have won the Sunday Million on Poker Stars, the largest weekly online tournament, as well as many other smaller tournaments. I have played many thousands of one table tournaments and hundreds of thousands of hands at Pot Limit Omaha. I believe that this breadth of knowledge has been extremely helpful in understanding the game and my opponents.
I currently lives in New York City with my wife. I have run several marathons and triathlons. I love reading non-fiction books with an emphasis on economics and current events. I also enjoy exploring the city, eating at fine restaurants and enjoying time with friends.
